The ALTO High-Speed Train Project is a proposed high-speed rail network that will connect major cities between Toronto and Quebec City, with trains travelling up to 300 km/h.
The project is currently in the planning and design phase, with construction anticipated to begin around 2029-2030. The project goes through the entire Quinte Region. For homeowners located within or near the proposed corridor, the project could have several impacts. The federal government has introduced new powers that may allow land to be acquired (expropriated) for the rail line, potentially faster than under traditional processes. In some cases, properties identified for future use could face restrictions on development or be subject to a right of first refusal by the project authority.
While exact routes are still being refined, homeowners in affected areas should stay informed, as the project could influence property use, future development potential, and in some cases, ownership.
